My name is Jenny Dixon from Craft That Party, and I am one of the featured stylists for the Birthday Express Ideas Blog. I tend to integrate lots of DIY ideas into parties and I am excited to share my tips and easy crafts with you right here each month.
I’m back! This week, I’m sharing tips and ideas on how to create a fantastically festive DIY Holiday photo booth. Photo booths are always the hit of our parties and a great way to capture the fun of your event on camera!
Tip 1: Start with a backdrop for your photo booth. This can be as simple as using a curtain or large sheet. Plain colors work best. I look for tall places to hang my backdrop. For this party, I used the track of my barn doors, but you could also use painter’s tape or command hooks to secure your backdrop.
Tip 2: Set up your camera on a tripod. Take some test photos to make sure you have your camera at a good height. Guests can use the timer function to take their own shots. Don’t have a tripod? Have guests take pictures using their phones!
Tip 3: Props, props, and more props! Props make guests feel more comfortable jumping in front of the camera. Costume Express has no shortage of festive props to choose from. For our party I chose a variety of props from Santa hats, to ugly sweater pins, glasses, and snowman accessories.
Tip 4: Have some fun signs or chalkboards ready for guests to pick and choose from. Guests will enjoy creating their own messages or phrases to pose with.
Tip 5: Share the photos. Guests will love seeing all the different photos from the party. Print out your favorite photos as favors for your guests or set up a place on social media where friends can see the photos. I always create a special hashtag for each event (such as #HollyJolly15 or #SmithFamilyChristmas) where friends can go find the photos on social media.
Most importantly, have fun and enjoy capturing these special memories with your friends and family!
