Changing the Face of Beauty

Recently, photographer and blogger Katie Driscoll invited us to take part in a fairy costume photo shoot for Changing the Face of Beauty, sponsored by the Mighty Acorn Foundation. Changing the Face of Beauty began as a movement by photographers and business owners nationwide to inspire and encourage the acceptance of inner beauty.

Simply put, we couldn’t say no! Katie Driscoll’s photography captured 17 girls from all backgrounds and abilities giggling, twirling, and having a wonderful afternoon at an idyllic barnyard setting.

Update: All the products from the Mighty Acorn/Changing the Face of Beauty shoot will be auctioned off in support of GiGi’s Playhouse and Mighty Acorn Foundation.

Katie’s efforts with Changing the Face of Beauty have been lauded in People magazine as heroic, and she’s been named an “Architect for Change” by Maria Shriver.

Here’s our forest of magical fairies! Fairy wings make any little girl feel majestic, and a fairy costume ensemble takes it to the next level.

No fairy is complete without her magic wand! Tiaras and flowered headbands make fairy costumes even more special, too.

All of our princess party supplies make excellent choices for the party scene, and even juice glasses can be made to be shining and sparkly. To make your own, cover the bottom halves (or a little more) of some Mason jars with a thin layer of spray adhesive or decoupage glue. Then, just sprinkle on some gold glitter and allow to air-dry. Top off with golden striped straws.

Are these not the most adorable fairies you’ve ever seen? The wings aren’t all that make them special, though…

A table covered in golden tulle with strings of white lights above made for the perfect finishing decorative touches to this party setting.

Later, Princess Aurora and her majestic gown posed for a framed photo op with all of her fairy princess costumed friends:

If you can’t get enough of these enchanting images and want to see even more fun fairies from this event, click here to watch a special behind-the-scenes video. Special thanks goes to blogger and photographer Kelle Hampton for capturing it. While you’re at it, check out her blog, Enjoying the Small Things.

As you can probably guess, we were so inspired by Katie’s Barnyard Fairies that we’ve made the decision to bring their magic to Birthday Express! A brand new Enchanted Fairy party supplies design is coming soon to our selection of themes. The R&D phase is underway at this very moment – here’s a snapshot from our offices of our designer Angela gathering some more ideas.

Be sure to keep an eye out for more magical projects like this in the future, and please share the Changing the Face of Beauty story with your family and friends.

Also, remember to share your thoughts with us! Follow us on Facebook or Twitter @BirthdayExpress, or shoot us an email, and tell us what you think.
