Activities
Cupcake Liner Garland
Supplies:
- Several boxes of different size/style cupcake liners
- Coffee filters
- White yarn
- Hole punch
Have kids help decorate by making their own cupcake liner garland. Have several boxes of assorted cupcake liners on hand as well as white coffee filters. Have kids string the liners and filters onto the white yarn using a hole punch to make the holes.
Cupcake Decorating
Supplies:
- Cupcake Decorating Kit
- Cupcake mix (store bought or homemade)
- Cupcake baking pan
- Frosting (store bought or homemade)
- Sprinkles, jimmies, and other toppings
Before the party, prepare the cupcakes in liners. Separate the toppings and frostings into separate dishes. When it's time for the activity, give each of the guests a cupcake and a "Happy Birthday" pick. Have each guest decorate their own cupcake. You can even have a mini decorating competition!
Make Your Own Chef Hat
Supplies:
- 8 ½ x 11" cardstock or construction paper (1 per guest)
- White plastic grocery bag (1 per guest)
- Scissors
- Tape
Each guest should fold their cardstock in half the long way (for older children, it may be necessary to fold the paper the short way in order to create a longer band). They should then carefully cut the piece in half, following the fold line. This should leave them with two pieces that are each approximately 8 ½ x 5 ½". Next, the two pieces should be placed next to each other on the work surface so that they create a long band that is 17" long. The two pieces should then be taped together. You may wish to overlap the edges slightly for strength. Each guest can wrap the strip around their head to determine the correct size needed for their hat. A little extra room should be left for the plastic bag to be added. Trim the strip to the correct length and tape the edges together creating a band. Next, have guests cut the handles off their plastic bag. The bags should be turned inside out if they have printing and then the edge of the bag should be taped to the bottom, inside edge of the band. The bag should be gathered slightly as it is taped to create the appearance of a chef's hat!
Blindfold the Cook
Supplies:
- Mini marshmallows
- 2 - Large bowls
- Spoons
- Kitchen timer
- Blindfold
Select one of the children to be the first chef. Give the chef a large spoon and a bowl of mini marshmallows. Cover their eyes with a blindfold. Set a timer for 1 minute. In this time the chef has to use the spoon and scoop the marshmallows into a second bowl. When the bell rings measure how much they moved (you can use a measuring cup to do this) and the next player takes a turn. The one who moves the most marshmallows gets a prize.
