Activities
Musical LadyBug Circle
Estimated time: 25 minutes
Supplies:
Directions:
Fill a bag with prizes, and select a ladybug bean bag. Seat everyone in a circle, and put on some lively music. Players pass around the toy while music plays. When you stop the music, the player holding the toy wins a party favor and steps out of the game. Continue until everyone has won a prize.
Hidden LadyBugs
Estimated time: 25 minutes
Supplies:
Directions:
Every girl knows that ladybugs aren’t always easy to find. In this game, she gets a chance to find and keep one for herself! Before the party, hide the ladybug bean bags around the yard or designated party space. During the party, give your guests a chance to look for a ladybug until all of them have been found. Each guest keeps one ladybug bean bag toy as a take-home favor.
Birthday Bug Guess
Estimated time: 25 minutes
Supplies:
- red jelly beans and black jelly beans
- 2 clear jars
- slips of paper and pens/pencils
Directions:
Before the party, fill one jar with jelly beans. Pour them out; count them; then pour back into the jar again. Save the number, and at the party, invite everyone to guess how many jelly beans are in the jar. Set out slips of paper and pens for your guests to write their names and guesses on. Ask everyone to fold the slips and put them into the second jar. The winner who guesses the closest number wins the jelly beans!
LadyBug Time Capsule
Estimated time: 30 minutes
Supplies:
- shoebox or popcorn tin
- envelopes
- ladybug stickers
- birthday newspapers
- colorful paper
- colorful pens/glitter pens
Directions:
Select a future age for your little one, and ask everyone to write a letter to her at that age. Provide colorful paper, stickers, envelopes and glitter pens. Use a shoebox or popcorn tin as a time capsule. Collect all letters, as well as the day’s newspaper clippings and photos from the party. Put everything in the time capsule, and seal it up. Then store it somewhere in the house, to be opened at a birthday party years in the future.
Recipes
Pretty Punch
Estimated Total Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients:
- ginger ale or lemon-lime soda
- raspberry sherbet
Supplies:
Directions:
This pink punch is sure to fizz its way into the hearts of all your guests. At serving time, place raspberry sherbet in punch bowl (to cut down on splashes). Then add ginger ale or lemon-lime soda, and let everyone watch the punch fizz.
LadyBug Cake
Estimated Total Time: 30 minutes
Making an adorable cake is easy with a ladybug cake pan.
Olive Ladybugs
Estimated Total Time: 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- grape tomatoes
- black olives (whole)
- black cake icing
Directions:
Quick, easy and so cute! Begin by slicing your grape tomatoes (lengthwise) ¾ of the way up (these become the ladybug wings). Scoop out some of the inside and add a black olive to the middle (which represents the ladybug body). Finish your little ladybug appetizers by piping icing “spots” on top of the tomato “wings”. Serve them up on a pretty platter.
Chocolate LadyBug Berries
Estimated Total Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients:
- container of strawberries
- package of semi-sweet chocolate chips
Supplies:
- waxed paper
- double boiler
Directions:
Strawberries already look a lot like ladybugs, and they’re delicious dipped in chocolate. Wash strawberries, and dry well so chocolate will stick. Melt chocolate in a double boiler (with water only in bottom pan); monitor closely and stir regularly until all lumps have melted. Dip strawberries into chocolate, and let cool on waxed paper. Yum!
