Activities
Farmers for a Day
Supplies:
Directions:
As your guests arrive, transform all the kids into little farmers! Tie bandanas around their necks, and give them John Deere hats to wear. Hand them their "livestock", too (boxes of animal cookies)!
Tractor-Spotting
Directions:
Take the kids on a tractor-spotting adventure. Be sure to look for potential locations ahead of time. You can even include a visit to a farm or petting zoo. Find out if the kids can go on a pony ride, learn how to milk a cow, feed chickens, gather eggs, etc.
Barnyard Surprise
Supplies:
- plastic eggs that open (1 per child)
- farm animal stickers
- a large container filled with straw or raffia
Directions:
Gather your little chicks for a special egg hunt. Before kids arrive, place a sticker or drawing of a different farm animal inside each egg. Hide the eggs in the straw-filled container, and invite kids to find an egg, open it, and see what their surprise animal is. When everyone has opened an egg, form a circle and make sure kids know their animals. Then, sing "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," and invite kids to take turns acting and sounding like their surprise animals.
Little Piggies
Supplies:
- bowls of chocolate pudding (1 per child)
- hair ties for longer hair
- tablecover
Directions:
Kids love playing this messy game. Line up the bowls of muddy-looking pudding along the ground (whether indoors or outdoors, place a tablecover under the bowls for easier cleanup). Tie back hair that might get in the way. Then ask all the kids to place hands on the ground, beside their bowls, and keep them there throughout the game. When you shout, "Suey!" kids dive into their pudding bowls, and eat with no hands! If you wish, give prizes to the players with the cleanest bowls and the messiest faces. You'll get hilarious pictures, too!
