Activities
T-Shirt Tie-Dye
Supplies:
- Tie-dying Kit (or non-toxic fabric dye)
- White t-shirts (Pro-Planner Tip: Ask your guests' sizes when they RSVP)
- Rubber Bands
- Buckets (one for each dye color)
Start by creating an outdoor workstation. You will need one bucket for each fabric dye color. Prepare the dye according to the package directions. Once your guests arrive, give them each a t-shirt and let them begin by soaking the t-shirts in cold water. Next, create designs by wrapping rubber bands around different spots on the shirts. Have each of your guests put on plastic gloves and then let them dip their shirts into the dyes. After the dying process, instruct each guest to put their shirt in a re-sealable plastic bag and add their name to the outside (necessary for identification purposes later). Because this activity requires an overnight processing time, it works well for slumber parties. If, however, you are hosting an afternoon party, be sure to send home instructions to finish the tie-dye process. Create a card that states: Let your shirt sit in its bag overnight. In the morning, you can take your shirt out of the bag and rinse it until the water runs clear. Put your shirt in the dryer as the heat will help set the color.
Friendship Bracelets
Supplies:
Our Friendship Bracelet Kit offers both embroidery floss and bracelet-making instructions in one convenient pack. However, if this summer camp favorite is your specialty, show your groovy girls how to get knotty! Beads that feature flowers, peace signs, paisley prints, birds, etc. will allow your guests to get creative and showcase their unique style
Retro Freeze Dance
Play your favorite 60's and 70's tunes, get your guests out on the dance floor and let the music move your groovers! The game of Retro Freeze Dance starts by teaching your guests a couple of era-specific dance moves (the monkey, the twist, the freddie, the hitch hike, etc.). After everyone is in motion, let the game play begin! When the music stops, so should the dancers. Whoever doesn't freeze when the music stops, is out. Resume the music and start the game play again. Repeat this process until you have a dance champion! Award a themed prize to the winner.
Woodstock Gone Wild
Supplies:
- Tie-dyed bed sheet
- Camera
- Themed props (i.e. Afro wigs, rose-tinted glasses, costumes, hippie jewelry, protest signs (read: Give Peace A Chance), flowers, floppy hats, etc.)
Get on the scene with a homemade photo machine! Set up a flashback photo booth where guests can get with the times. Let your hippie chicks choose which groovy accessories they like best. Take a few far-out photos and send the neatest one in their thank-you note.
Recipes
Rainbow Cake
Ingredients:
- 2 Boxes white or yellow cake
- Frosting of your choice
- Sprinkles or candies
- Red, orange, yellow, green and blue food coloring
To make your rainbow cake, start by dividing the cake batter into small batches, adding a separate food coloring to each of them. Next, combine the batches, evenly, into 2 round cake pans. Do not mix the batter. Gently create swirls by cutting a knife into the unbaked layers. Bake according to box directions and cool on a wire rack. Remove the cakes from the pans and frost the top of one of the rounds. Place the second cake on top to create layers. Frost completely and add colored sprinkles or candies on top. Be sure to give your birthday girl the first peace!
Peace Sugar Cookies
Roll and cut out dough, using a round cookie cutter, and place the cookies on a nonstick baking sheet. Cook as directed on the package and cool on a wire rack. Separate the container of frosting into 2 bowls, adding a different food coloring to each bowl. Mix well. Frost the top of the cookies with one color. Place the other color frosting into an icing bag and pipe a peace sign design.
Flower Power Fruit Platter
Ingredients:
Peace-a Pizza Minis
Ingredients:
- English Muffins
- Pizza sauce
- Sliced mozzarella cheese
Slice the English muffins in half and place them onto a nonstick baking sheet. Add pizza sauce to each muffin half. Using a pizza cutter, cut your mozzarella slices into ½" strips. Place one strip of mozzarella down the center of each muffin half. Cut another mozzarella strip in half and place them, diagonally, on either side of the middle strip (creating a peace sign). Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes (or until the muffin is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly).
