After the Party

Activities

Demolition Man

Supplies:

Before the party, use caution tape to mark off a "safety game zone" and prop up the cardboard construction signs on a table (Pro-planner tip: For an easy and inexpensive sign prop, cut a slit on either side of a paper cup (the open end). Place the construction sign inside the cup holder). Once your crew arrives, equip everyone with a construction helmet. To play the game, have your guests take turns throwing the splat rocks to knock down the signs. The person with the best score out of 3 wins!

Dude, Where's My Truck?

Supplies:

Dump trucks, cement mixers and cranes, oh my! Before your construction crew arrives to the party, hide toy construction vehicles around the yard. To play the game, instruct each guest to search the site for the work trucks. Once the foreman has possession of all the vehicles, let your guest each keep a truck as his prize!

Blue Collar Boogie

Supplies:

Similar to the kid party favorite, freeze dance, this game will have your kids jumping and shaking from 9 to 5! Is your crew ready to play? Give them each a helmet and construction vest to wear. When the music starts, all the players dance (Pro-planner tip: Teach them themed dance moves like "axe the cement" or "the hose pose"). When the music stops, the dancers must freeze. Anyone caught moving after the music stops is out. Play continues until there is one person left who wins the game.

Pile of Bricks

Supplies:
  • toy blocks

'Pile of Bricks' can be played by using red paper bricks, or any other building block toy set that can be stacked (but doesn't snap together). Begin the game by instructing the guest of honor to lay down the first brick. Each guest will then take a turn adding a brick to the tower until the pile of bricks falls down. The child whose brick knocks down the tower is out, and game play begins again. Continue until there is just one person left. Award a prize to the winner.

Recipes

Wormy Dirt Cake

Ingredients:
  • 1 package of Oreo cookies
  • 1- 8 oz. tub of whipped topping
  • 1 package of Instant Pudding (Chocolate or Vanilla)
  • gummy worms
Supplies:
  • 1 - 8x8 baking dish
  • 1 - straw

Grind up the Oreo cookies in your blender (Pro-planner Tip: Put the Oreo cookies in the freezer overnight. This makes the cookies easier to grind in the blender the next day). Make the pudding according to the package directions and add in the tub of whipped topping. In an 8x8 baking dish, begin layering the crushed cookies and pudding mix (be sure to end with a cookie layer). After the layers have been made, use a straw to create shallow holes in the "dirt". Stick the gummy worms into the holes to create the illusion that they are coming up through the dirt. This is a tried and true recipe that will please everyone's sweet tooth.

Brown Bag Lunches

Ingredients:
  • peanut butter
  • jelly
  • bread
  • fruit (i.e. apple, banana, orange, etc.)
  • construction cookies (see recipe)
Supplies:
  • brown paper lunch bags
  • marker

Begin by making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for each guest (Pro-planner tip: To add even more ambiance, use our construction cookie cutters to create a themed shape!). Assemble the lunches by including a sandwich, a piece of fruit and a cookie to each paper bag. Write each child's name on the bag to complete this worksite staple!

Nuts and Bolts Snack Mix

Ingredients:
  • 2 cups Cheerios
  • 2 cups Corn Chex
  • 2 cups Rice Chex
  • 1 cup small oyster crackers
  • 1 cup peanuts* (optional)
  • 2 cups small pretzels
  • 1/3 c. melted butter
  • 1 tbsp. worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp. garlic salt
  • 1 tsp. seasoning salt
Supplies:

Mix all of the listed ingredients in a large bowl. Scoop the mixture onto a large cookie sheet, in an even layer. Bake at 250 degrees for 30 minutes, stirring thoroughly halfway through. Cool completely and serve in a clean, napkin-lined, plastic construction helmet.

*Note: peanuts may be omitted in case of allergies.

Construction Cookies

Ingredients:
  • 1 package of sugar cookie dough
  • frosting and sprinkles, for decorating
Supplies:

Chill and cut the sugar cookie dough, using construction-shaped cookie cutters. Place on an ungreased baking sheet and prepare the cookies according to the package directions. Let them cool completely before decorating each one to match your party theme!

Glance through the list below to see if you're missing any important items. Many can be found on the party theme page.
